CPAC Set for February 25-28 in Orlando

Every year since 1974, the Conservative Political Action Conference has occurred in or close-by Washington, D.C.

This year, the event's sponsor, the American Conservative Union, indicated a change in plans and that the convention is instead to be scheduled for Orlando in late February. Almost 20,000 attendees flocked to the event last year, only a half month prior to the declaration of the COVID-19 national emergency.

There will be many virtual elements to the event and planners highlighted their concerns for the safety of those involved: "We believe that we can host this event in a safe and responsible way,” a spokesman for the American Conservative Union told Fox News, which first reported the convention’s move.

The Gaylord Hotel in Maryland where the event took place for the last four years cannot host crowds of CPAC's size due to COVID restrictions. However, the usual cast of GOP speakers and lawmakers, including former President Donald Trump, are expected to appear also, with some exceptions. The event will begin on February 25th.
