OCPS Superintendent Barbara Jenkins Plans Retirement by End of 2022
Dr. Barbara Jenkins announced her retirement from the position of OCPS Superintendent by the end of the year in December.
“Through the years, it has been my honor to work with phenomenal board members, teachers, administrators and support staff who are committed to leading our students to success. Serving in this role has been a calling and a tremendous blessing,” said Superintendent Jenkins in a statement.
Jenkins' retirement comes as pressure from the state's Commissioner of Education, Richard Corcoran, elevated over the past year regarding mask mandates. Corcoran sent a letter to Orange County Public Schools announcing an investigation into the district after the OCPS School Board voted to adopt a mask mandate in county-run schools.
February 15th has been selected as the date for the county school boards to begin an initial search for Jenkins' replacement.
